Control bodies, such as the Attorney General’s Office, the Ombudsman’s Office and the Prosecutor General’s Office, all of which are now headed by officials of the government coalition, have taken two decisions that go against democracy and the Human Rights Protection Measurement System.

Political analyst Ariel Ávila announced this week that the government and the control bodies, such as the Attorney General’s Office, the Ombudsman’s Office and the Prosecutor General’s Office, all headed by officials of the coalition government, have taken two decisions that go against democracy and the Human Rights Protection Measurement System:

Colombian President IvÃ¡n Duque has decreed 3 days of national mourning for the death of the country’s Minister of Defense Carlos Holmes Trujillo, and 51,747 COVID victims. Carlos Holmes Trujillo is receiving the highest honor bestowed on a leader whose only office that eluded him for 69-years was the Presidency.
Carlos Holmes was the Vice-Presidential formula of conservative candidate Ãscar IvÃ¡n Zuluaga in the 2014 elections against incumbent Juan Manuel Santos, and previously Ambassador to the European Union during the second term of President Ãlvaro Uribe VÃ©lez. Carlos Holmes also was posted as the Colombian Ambassador to Sweden, Iceland, Austria, Russia and the Organization of American States (OAS).

After a two-week battle with respiratory complications caused by coronavirus, Colombia’s Minister of Defense Carlos Holmes Trujillo died Tuesday morning at age 69.
Holmes Trujillo was connected to an ICU at the Military Hospital in BogotÃ¡ after being transferred there on January 13 from Barranquilla where he was being treated for viral pneumonia and COVID-19 related infection.
Carlos Holmes fell sick during an official government trip to the Colombian coast to review a military garrison.
Carlos Holmes Trujillo was considered a strong presidential candidate for the 2022 elections and among President IvÃ¡n Duque’s most trusted and loyal cabinet members. The untimely death of one of the country’s most experienced politicians and who served as Mayor of Cali between 1998 and 1990 comes days after the Presidency confirmed in a statement that Carlos Holmes Trujillo was “in stable condition.”

The Colombian Government released a second communique regarding the health condition of Minister of Defense Carlos Holmes Trujillo after he was hospitalized two weeks ago with a severe case of coronavirus infection.
According to the statement released by Casa de NariÃ±o on Wednesday, January 20, the 69-year cabinet member and close political ally of President IvÃ¡n Duque continues in an intensive care unit (ICU) at the Hospital Militar in BogotÃ¡ with viral pneumonia due to SARS-CoV-2.
The statement confirms that Holmes Trujillo is sedated, intubated, yet responding “favorably to ventilatory support measures.” Carlos Holmes was named Minister of Defense in November 2019 after a cover-up involving a military operation against a FARC dissident camp killing several youngsters forced the resignation of his predecessor Guillermo Botero.
