Be it camping at the site, consoling the family members, setting up the control room, supervising the rescue operations or distribution of relief materials, these women have led from the front.
They have ensured that the coordination between different agencies involved with the rescue and relief operations brought out positive results.

To protect Ganga from hydropower plants, Matri Sadan seers to sit on fast from Feb 23 | Dehradun News

Matri Sadan
Dehradun: In the backdrop of the Chamoli tragedy, the seers of Matri Sadan have decided to start their fast unto death from February 23 onwards unless the government decides to scrap all the hydropower plants on Ganga and Yamuna and their main tributaries.
Swami Shivanand Saraswati, the 70-year-old Ganga activist and founder of the Haridwar-based Matri Sadan, will be sitting on protest fast. The activist has tagged his protest a 'tapasya’ to save the Ganga.
The protest consists of four demands. Their three other demands include removal of stone crushers 5km away from the banks of Ganga, banning mining and quarrying on the Ganga riverbed from Raiwala to Raighat and formation of a 'Ganga Parishad'.

I ravaged nature for years, but a tree saved my life: Uttarakhand flash flood survivor | Dehradun News

Vikram Chauhan was one of the few fortunate survivors at the Rishiganga hydel power project
DEHRADUN: “My job has always been to cut the mountains, or plough the earth. I never conserved nature. But today, I am grateful that nature came to my rescue in the form of a tree,” Vikram Chauhan, 49, an excavator operator who survived the Rishiganga flash flood, told TOI.
Now Chauhan has a different outlook towards nature. “I respected trees as they gave us oxygen, nothing more than that. But that morning taught me a lesson. Nature has both the powers to save or to kill.”

It will take a year for river ecosystem to regenerate: Experts | Dehradun News

The riverbed of the Rishiganga and the Dhauliganga up to Srinagar — nearly 100km — has been completely disturbed due to siltation, according to scientists
Dehradun: Sunday's flash flood in Chamoli has not only sucked away human lives and destroyed hydel projects but also has shaken the river ecology immensely, so much so that it will take a year's break from human interference to regenerate, say experts. The riverbed of the Rishiganga and the Dhauliganga up to Srinagar -- nearly 100km -- has been completely disturbed due to siltation, according to scientists.
The macrobenthos (organisms that live at the bottom of a water column and are visible to the naked eye) and insects, which are also known as aquatic ‘ecosystem managers’ of the rivers are all gone with the disaster. They will take at least a year to come back again.

Uttarakhand glacier burst: Rising waters interrupt rescue effort, operation resumes after all-clear | Dehradun News

Uttarakhand glacier burst: Chamoli locals recount horror
Chamoli district magistrate Swati S Bhadauria said work was temporarily halted as a precautionary measure.
Amid mounting concern over the lives of those inside, the focal point of the rescue operation remains the 1.5-km "head-race tunnel" -- a part of the 2.5-km long network of tunnels.
"A drilling operation was started by the rescue teams at 2 am to peep into the slush-flushing tunnel that is about 12-13 metres below," Vivek Kumar Pandey, the spokesperson for the lead rescue agency, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), said in Delhi.
As the continuous flow of slush and silt remains a major obstacle between the rescuers and those trapped inside, a boring operation by a huge machine is being undertaken to see if this problem can be addressed in a different way and the teams can go further deep inside, he added.

Uttarakhand flood news: Hope in hearts & prayer on lips, families wait, watch rescue work | Dehradun News

As rescue personnel try to reach those trapped, family members say they are hopeful that their loved ones, too, will emerge from the tunnel soon
RAINI VILLAGE (CHAMOLI): As rescue personnel try to evacuate almost 35 workers stuck inside a tunnel at the site of the Tapovan-Vishnugad project of NTPC that suffered heavy damages in Sunday’s flash floods, trepidation and tension hangs in the air outside. The mood is made all the more sombre since relatives of those who are stuck inside – for over 36 hours now – are there at the site, fervently praying that their loved ones are safe.
Oblivious of the muck and slush that the flash floods left behind and the sharp winter chill, 58-year-old Pal Chand looks at the 950 metre-long tunnel --which a joint team of ITBP, NDRF, SDRF and Army personnel has been trying to enter since Sunday evening – with hope in his eyes and a prayer on his lips.
