COVID victim in Davao Oriental died of South African variant

DAVAO CITY – A 63-year old male patient from Mati City in Davao Oriental province who died due to coronavirus disease on May 17 tested positive for the South African coronavirus variant.
Citing reports from the Provincial Epidemiologic Surveillance Unit (PESU), the provincial government of Davao Oriental in a statement Friday, July 9, said the result of the swab specimen taken from the patient came in Thursday night (July 8).
“The deceased patient, who was admitted at the Davao Regional Medical Center on May 9, 2021, died due to respiratory failure secondary to acute distress syndrome, secondary to COVID-19 pneumonia. He had also endured comorbidities such as hypertension and diabetes,” the provincial government said.

Davao Oriental governor recovers from COVID-19

DAVAO CITY – Davao Oriental Governor Nelson Dayanghirang has returned to work after recovering from coronavirus disease.
In a statement, the provincial government of Davao Oriental said Dayanghirang resumed office on Thursday, June 10. Dayanghirang and his wife, Nanette, announced on May 25 that they were found positive for COVID-19.
“After recovering from COVID-19, Gov. Nelson Dayanghirang has been allowed by his physicians to resume office duty starting today, June 10, 2021,” the provincial government said.
“He is now allowed to physically go back to work provided that his engagements will be limited to priority activities only for the meantime, as sanctioned and approved by his health team,” it said.

Covid-19 vaccination in Davao begins on March 5

THE vaccination in Davao City is set to begin on Friday, March 5, after the arrival of 12,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine from Sinovac Biotech Ltd on Tuesday morning, March 2.
The vaccines from Manila arrived at the Francisco Bangoy International Airport, also known as Davao International Airport, on a Philippine Airlines flight around 6:40 a.m. of March 2.
The vaccines were immediately transported to the Department of Health Davao Center for Health Development (DOH-DCHD).
The arrival of Covid-19 vaccines in Davao City was just two days after 600,000 doses of Sinovac's CoronaVac vaccines were received by the Philippines on Sunday, February 28.
The vaccines arrived earlier than expected. Vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said on Monday, March 1, that vaccines were expected to be transported to Davao City on March 5 and 6.
