Microsoft rolls out its OpenJDK preview release

On April 6, Microsoft is rolling out a preview of the Microsoft Build of OpenJDK, a long-term support distribution of the OpenJDK. It includes the binaries for Java 11 and is available on x64 server and desktop environments on Windows, as well as on MacOS and Linux. Microsoft also is publishing today a new early-access release for Java 16 on Windows on Arm. (Last June, Microsoft s Java Engineering Group announced it had completed the first phase of porting OpenJDK for Windows on Arm.)
Microsoft bought jClarity in 2019 with the stated intent of using its technology to optimize Java workloads on Azure. jClarity touted its commercial support for AdoptOpenJDK binaries as being the drop-in replacement for Oracle s Java/JDK. Microsoft has been a sponsor of the AdoptOpenJDK project since 2018. The company s jClarity purchase kicked off the official formation of the Java Engineering Group in Microsoft s Developer Division, officials said. ....

Seattle startup Common Room emerges from stealth mode with $52M in funding

The news: Common Room, a year-old startup based in Seattle, is coming out of stealth mode in a big way. The company revealed $52 million in total funding and big-name customers using its software that aims to help companies deepen relationships with their users and customers. GeekWire first uncovered the startup in September just as it was getting off the ground.
The product: The company’s tools act as a conduit between organizations and people in their communities. It integrates with communication apps such as Slack, Twitter, Discord, and more. The idea is to make “community” a competitive advantage, connecting users with each other and soliciting product feedback. ....

Robotic process automation tech startup UiPath raises $750M at $35B valuation

UiPath is raising more cash. The New York-based company just announced a $750 million Series F round that pushes its valuation to $35 billion.
This follows a $225 million Series E round raised in July at a $10.2 billion valuation. Total funding to date is nearly $2 billion.
Founded in 2005, UiPath builds technology called Robotic Process Automation, or RPA. It involves systems that use AI to learn and then take over routine and mundane software processes and business workflows from human workers. The company reported more than $400 million in annual recurring revenue in July. ....
