How to Double Wheat Production in Bangladesh

Since its domestication around 10,000 years ago, wheat has been playing an important role in ensuring food security in the world. In 2017, wheat was cultivated in at least 117 countries on around 218 million ha of land. With an average yield of 3.5 tonne/ha, total wheat production in the world was 773 million tonnene. With yearly per capita consumption of  65.6kg, 484 million tonne (63% of the total production) of wheat was consumed, and 31% was exported (239 million tonne). Interestingly, in North America and Europe- the traditional wheat consuming regions, while the per capita wheat consumption has been declining recently, wheat consumption in the economically and demographically emerging countries across Asia and Africa has been increasing dramatically over the years.
