A Roads and Highways Department (RHD) project, which has already set a rare example by completing three major bridges on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway on time and saving around Tk 1400 crore, has received a prestigious award from Japan.
The project won a prestigious award Technology Award of Japan Society of Civil Engineers Award 2021, from Japan, which has funded the project, RHD officials said today.
Under the project, three new bridges were constructed and three old bridges on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway were repaired. ....

Faster Dhaka-Ctg Rail Trip: Work delayed, wait prolonged

People s wait for smoother and faster rail communication between Dhaka and Chattogram will be prolonged further as the deadline for expansion of the Akhaura-Lakhsam section on this crucial route is set to be extended for a second time.
Journeys on this route typically take additional time because this 72km section remains a bottleneck while the rest of the 321km rail corridor between the capital and the port city has already been converted into a double line.
A project approved in December 2014 for construction of a double rail line on this section and conversion of the existing track into dual gauge was supposed to be completed between July 2014 and June 2020. ....

New rail line to link northern tip | The Daily Star

The Banglabandha is a major inland port in Panchagarh the northern-most district in the country.
The alignment of the 48-kilometre broad gauge rail line was finalised yesterday, BR officials said. As per primary design, the rail line will have five stations.
The approval came at a meeting at the Rail Bhaban with Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan in the chair.
We will build the rail line till the Banglabandha Land Port for now. We will talk with our Indian counterpart before taking the final decision regarding where the line will be connected [with the Indian railway] in the border, DN Majumder, additional director general (infrastructure) of the BR, told The Daily Star. ....
