Looking for a Covid vaccine slot? Cross Kerala border

Express News Service
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Even as the government claims that the state is far ahead of other states in vaccinating the people, those who live in the border districts find booking a slot for vaccination in private hospitals in Tamil Nadu or Karnataka is easier than searching for a vaccination slot in Kerala. K Arun, 35, of Neyyattinkara in Thiruvananthapuram, who recently took his first dose of vaccination from Chennai, said the people who live in the border areas prefer neighbouring districts in Tamil Nadu to get the vaccine as there is no rush for paid doses in the neighbouring state.

Thiruvananthapuram airport takeover may be delayed further

Express News Service
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The takeover of Trivandrum International Airport by Adani Thiruvananthapuram International Airport Limited, whollyowned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises, is likely to be delayed further as there is hardly 10 days left for the formal expiry of the concession agreement signed with the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The agreement was signed on January 19, 2021 for the operations, management and development of Thiruvananthapuram airport and as per its terms, the takeover has to be completed by July 18.
According to sources, the board meeting of AAI to be held on Wednesday is likely to take a call on the matter and may extend the deadline by three more months on the company’s request. Once the airport is taken over by the new operator, the AAI staff will have to work under the new employer for three years to ensure the smooth transition of the control of the airport to the new company.

Express News Service
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The incessant rain triggered by Cyclone Tauktae has forced 5,235 people of 1,479 families to seek shelter in relief camps opened by the state. As many as 397 (8%) of them were either Covid positive or had suspected symptoms of the infection, according to the data available with the state government. As there are hardly two weeks left for the onset of Southwest Monsoon in the state, the rising Covid cases would be a headache for the state authorities.
According to sources, these were known cases even before shifting them to camps. It is not known if there were any unidentified Covid patients among the displaced as it was not possible to hold tests for them in the hour of emergency. But it is sure that if the primary or secondary contacts of positive cases are taken into account, the number of suspected cases would be quite high.
