In December during the Disney Investor Meeting one of the biggest announcement was the launch of the Star Brand on Disney Plus. Focusing on gaining more subscribers in the upcoming years Disney had pivoted its initial plan for Disney Plus and was now focusing on getting more content on the streaming service. With the acquisition of 21st Century Foxand all of its content this allowed Disney to rethink it’s plan moving forward with the streaming network.
For the United States it was simple to just add all the Fox and mature content to Huluand bundle both streaming services together. For international purposes that was not as easy. One of the big acquisitions Disneyhad taken over the past year was the Starstreaming services that originally started in India but was expanding across Asia. It was announced during the Investor Meeting that Disney would merge the two services into one for its international market. On top of adding more content to Disney Plus there will now be a rating for content and parental controls to manage content seen in the homes.

After more than two months since its official announcement, Disney+ has finally launched their newest content hub called Star, which further expands the growing streaming service’s already loaded collection of content raging from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars up to National Geographic. The Star brand geared towards more adult programming is now available in select international territories including Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Europe. Meanwhile in Singapore, Disney+ with Star launched today becoming the first market to launch with the new general entertainment brand.

Disney+ has launched its new service Star, the general entertainment content brand being offered to Disney+ users in overseas markets. The addition of Star will give Disney+ users overseas access to a much wider array of content from Disney, 20th Century Fox, Fox TV, FX, ABC, Searchlight Pictures and more. With that new wider breadth of content will also come enhanced controls, as Disney+ and Star will offer overseas users an updated User Interface that includes mature content options for Disney+. In a statement, Rebecca Campbell, Chairman, International Operations and Direct-to-Consumer, The Walt Disney Company said, "With the addition of Star, we’re building even more value for consumers by adding an incredible array of high-quality movies and series for families, older teens, and adults, fueled by the acquisition of 21st Century Fox and our creative studios.”
