Sheridan's Frozen Custard closes Cordova location

The custard shop is known for its frozen custard treats such as concretes and sundaes. The Dirt & Worms Concrete (a thick blended shake) was a beloved treat by youngsters.
Roy said he had many reasons for closing the business he opened in December 2003. He cited the difficulty in finding good employees over the past few years as one example.
He and his family will be moving to Destin, Florida.
"If anyone would like to open a custard shop to fill the void left by Sheridan's, I would be happy to consult with them on how to do it," Roy said.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Fast-food workers across the U.S. are calling for the minimum wage to be raised to $15 an hour.
Friday, fast-food workers across the country made a similar call to action by staging a strike.

“These corporations -- they have the money to pay us,” said Ashley Cathey, an employee at Dixie Queen in Memphis.
Cathey participated in the strike organized by Fight for $15.
“Martin Luther King and other forefathers fought this same fight 50-something years ago, and we have to come back in time and fight this same fight,” said Cathey. “History just repeating itself. We really want to change that. I’m hoping that the campaign helped a lot of people change and wake up to what’s really going on.”

Joshua Holmes indicted in Dixie Queen homicide

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A customer at an ice cream store who sprayed the business with gunfire following an argument over his order has been indicted on first-degree murder charges for the death of an employee.
Joshua Holmes, 20 has also been indicted on two counts each of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and employment of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony.
The incident occurred around midday on May 24 at the Dixie Queen at 1181 S. Bellevue Blvd. where Holmes got into an argument with an employee who took his order.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A customer responsible for a shooting at Dixie Queen has been indicted for first-degree murder charges, according to the Shelby County District Attorney.
Joshua Holmes, 20, was also indicted by a grand jury on two counts each of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and employment of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony.
