POA convenes federations' meeting on Feb 13

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has convened a General Council meeting of all the affiliated federations on February 13 in Lahore to discuss the strategy and events’ management for the 14th South Asian Games to be held in Pakistan in March 2023.
Majority of the federations would be part of the sports extravaganza the country would be hosting after two decades.
“All the federations will be taken into confidence regarding the POA officials’ recent meetings with government high-ups regarding hosting of the Games,” a POA official said. The meeting will also discuss the WADA Anti-Doping Code 2021.
The 34th National Games 2021 to be held in Quetta will also be under discussion during the meeting. ....

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has suspended Iranian Para-athlete Hamid Eslami for four years after committing an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV).
The Para-athletics T11 runner returned an adverse analytical finding for a prohibited substance in a urine sample provided on 17 August 2019 in an out of competition test.
The substance, EPO (Erythropoietin), was included on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) 2019 Prohibited List under the class S2. Peptide Hormones, Growth Factors, Related Substances and Mimetics.
As a result of the violation, Eslami will be ineligible for competition for four years from 14 October 2019 to 14 October 2023.
“Eslami was part of a Registered Testing Pool, a group of top-level athletes in specific Paralympic sports who take part in a year-round out-of-competition testing programme,” James Sclater, IPC Anti-Doping Director, said. “The IPC has conducted more targeted out of competition ....

US Para athlete Sebastiana Lopez banned for anti-doping rule violation

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has suspended US Para athlete Sebastiana Lopez for four years after committing an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV).
The F54 thrower returned an adverse analytical finding for a prohibited substance in a urine sample provided on 26 August 2019 during the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games in Peru. The prohibited substance was GW501516, which is included on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List under the class S4 - Hormone and Metabolic Modulators.
As a result of the violation, Lopez will be ineligible for competition for four years from 5 September 2019 to 4 September 2023. All the athlete’s individual results obtained at the 2019 Parapan American Games are disqualified, with all resulting consequences including forfeiture of any medals, points or prizes. ....
