New Zealand earthquake: Monster 7.3 quake sparks tsunami warning - 'Move to higher ground'

He said: "Waiting on the Napier hill for updates. Stay safe everyone."
GeoNet reported the quake caused "strong shaking near Te Araroa" on the northeast coast of the north island.
The monitoring group said the earthquake had struck 100km east of Te Araroa.

The International Tsunami Information Centre also issued an alert.
The group said: "Based on all available data, hazardous tsunami waves are forecast for some coasts."
They added: "Tsunami waves reaching 0.3 to 1m above the tide level are possible for some coasts of New Zealand."
