Meeting via Zoom Saturday, Edmonds City Councilmembers discuss the budgeting process with consultant Mike Bailey and City Finance Director Dave Turley, bottom row.
Should the City of Edmonds move from a one-year to a two-year budget cycle? How can the city better engage citizens in the budget process? What should the city prioritize and de-emphasize in the 2022 budget? Those were among the topics discussed during the Edmonds City Council’s budget retreat Saturday afternoon via Zoom.
The meeting facilitator was consultant Mike Bailey, a former finance director for the cities of Redmond, Renton and Lynnwood, who also ran a similar budget retreat for the council in 2020.

Letter to the editor: HASCO agreement approval process undermines public trust in government

MY EDMONDS NEWS

Open Letter to Council President Susan Paine,
The Alliance of Citizens for Edmonds (ACE) wrote to you on March 30, 2021 with concerns about lack of advance notice to Edmonds residents when council addresses Citizens Housing Commission (CHC) recommendations. In response, you assured notice of CHC proposals coming before council.
Development Services Director Shane Hope promised at her initial overview that each of the CHC proposals would be presented in detail to council for public discussion, allowing the full council to determine how to move each idea forward, if at all. In response to a second email about notice regarding the HASCO Interlocal Agreement discussion by Council (a CHC recommendation) you replied, “As I said in my earlier email, as soon as the CHC recommendations are ready to come to council, we will provide notice through the usual avenues.”

Consultant Ken Lauzen (top row-center) answers councilmembers’ questions about bike lane alternatives presented Tuesday night.
The Edmonds City Council got a closer look Tuesday night at the latest proposal to add over six miles of bicycle lanes in various Edmonds neighborhoods.
Representatives from consultant Blueline Inc. were on hand to talk about their work on the project, which began with collection and analysis of parking and traffic data in the affected areas followed by community outreach. A virtual open house to gather residents’ input was held Feb. 24.
Funded by a $1.85 million Sound Transit Access grant, the initiative would add bike lanes to various Edmonds streets, including:
