Vietnam veterans thankful for closure 50 years on

Australia's Vietnam veterans say they have received closure 50 years after the nation ended its involvement in the conflict.

“I think it’s a really important thing to say thank you, to let people know that we really do care about what’s happening to you and how your lives and families can be affected by (post-traumatic stress disorder) and other things” Childs said.
“So many men are feeling like they can’t really vent or share what they’re going through for fear of losing their jobs, or being judged.

Mr Palmer said despite Mr Payne living in Mackay for 40 years, it was only the third time the oldest surviving Victoria Cross recipient had made a hometown service as he was in high demand.

Three riders and their horses lead the march that commenced the Kuttabul Anzac Day Dawn Service to the sounds of bagpipes across the chill air.
The Kuttabul Anzac Day Dawn Service was attended by hundreds of Mackay region locals to commemorate those who served and in particular the Australian Light Horse brigade.
