President s comments to fox news are any indication, we think he s unwilling to compromise. what must mexico do? what can they do to stem this massive tide, 140,000 people in may? when you re the piggy bank this everybody steals and robs from and they deceive you and they like they ve been doing for 25 years, tariffs are a beautiful thing. it s a beautiful word, if you know how to use them properly. republicans should love what i m doing. so our big question today is, can the white house reach a deal with mexico ahead of monday s deadline? joining me now, nbc news white house correspondent, kristen welker. new york times chief white house correspondent and msnbc political analyst, peter baker, and former chief communications adviser for paul ryan, brendon buck. kristen, is it possible for the white house to negotiate this with the president currently overseas? i don t think so. i just spoke to a senior administration official who s really playing the expectations game and s ....

And the president of the united states might look at it and say, no, that s not good enough. i think that s a trick anytime you re negotiating with this white house or this administration at this point, if you re a foreign government, how do you know a deal would stick, unless the president himself is in the room. that s a real challenge at this point. and the president oversees, as you were just saying with kristen, that makes it doubly challenging. so i would expect that, yes, they can make progress, yes, if they choose to define it as enough progress to hold off on the tariffs that they want or to delay them or to let the first round go into effect while they continue to goerkt in order to prevent any further ones, you could see some sort of an accommodation possibly coming out of this if they want that to happen. that s the real question. brendon buck, the president seems to think that republicans should just get with the program. that they don t know what s good for them. you kn ....

Polling on all of this, what is your sense on whether i take zerlina s point absolutely about women being affected by this. we have a lot of religious voters in the democratic party. many african-americans fit into that. where is the balance here for those voters on this issue? so my understanding is that most people are kind of a bit more middle of the road on this issue. many people are, i should say, are a lot more middle of the road on this issue. and so the question that i have, i guess, is that as joe biden is looking to not just win the primary, but perhaps be the democratic nominee and win over a lot of disaffected democrats who perhaps in turn voted for trump in 2016, would a position like this be salient for those voters and not just the most progressive voters in the base? and that s really not clear with the polling that we have right now, is whether or not it would rise or not in that environment. zerlina maxwell, thank you for your perspective. juana summers, thanks ....

Hinged on health care. that is one of the issues she said she is not going to compromise on. listen to what she said. let me put it this way. i believe in working across the aisle when that lets us get things done. we are talking about things like health care coverage. i m not going to compromise when people say i want to take away health care coverage from 30 million people. we will just take it away from 15 million and that s going to be okay. health care is basic human right. we fight for basic human rights. reporter: we have talked about the electability question that elizabeth warren often faces. i think part of going to the red states it allows her to literally bring her pitch into trump country and create that sort of general election vibe between what it would look like as elizabeth warren on donald trump s 2016 turf and policy plans. to that very point, and i m going to bring alena into the ....

And donald trump. they were getting at the same dien kinds of issues. they were talking about problems. i think that this is not strained too far from that sort of same set of voters who are interested in blowing up the way things are in washington. elizabeth warren is trying to make end roads into that block of voters and going back to indiana, donald trump made a lot of noise around carriers staying in indianapolis and not shipping jobs over to mexico. she is there trying to make the point that she is not able to with hold those promises. and the big question i think we heard was whether or not her plans which she says are very detailed and focussed are actually going to pan out. i think a lot of people feel like a lot of promises from politicians and not a lot of results. i thought it was very interesting that that one woman in particular as our unemployment number shows it is lower than ever, that is not ....
