2021 color trends in commercial photography

2021 color trends in commercial photography
There’s a famous moment in the 2006 film
The Devil Wears Prada where Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) lectures Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) about color trends, explaining how Andy’s seemingly average cerulean blue sweater was, in fact, influenced by years of high fashion. The scene is fictional, of course, but it does have some roots in reality: in 2000, the Pantone Color Institute named Cerulean Blue “the color of the millennium.”
Every year since then, the Pantone Color Institute has forecasted color trends through their much-anticipated “Color of the Year,” influencing choices made by leaders within the advertising, art, tech, and design industries.

From Ganni to Givenchy: the spring 2021 campaigns are here to spark joy

Given our loungewear-limned reality, there’s nothing quite like a bit of vicarious escapism. And that’s precisely what the spring/summer 2021 campaigns have delivered on: fashion fantasy.
Dior’s renaissance-inspired campaign was informed by the work of Italian painter Caravaggio and his use of soft lighting, resulting in sultry, timeless Baroque-style photographs, while Kim Jones’ menswear offering at the French Maison was similarly a work of art. His collection and campaign for Dior Men’s SS21 drew on the work of Ghanaian painter Amoako Boafo, which resulted in a clutch of vibrant portraits to match the equally as bold collection.

Summer 2021 is right around the corner. We’re taking a step back to refresh and appreciate the campaigns that have been released so far for the bronzed season. So far, it seems like prints, patterns, patchwork, and Polaroids are the biggest themes on some of the best campaigns for spring-summer 2021 (SS21).

Shot by celebrated photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Versace’s SS21 campaign starred the La Medusa handbag. The models looked like mermaids soaked in sea creature accessories and playful pieces from the neon-infused collection.
