WATCH: Miss SA Shudu Musida speak on teen suicide prevention during Covid-19

Miss South Africa Shudufhadzo Musida launched her online mental health initiative, “Mindful Mondays”.
This week being Teen Suicide Prevention Week (February 14 - 21), a week that highlights awareness especially around teen depression, Musida’s online initiative focused on equipping parents and teachers about matter surrounding teen’s mental health.
“Being lethargic, feeling alienated, and being irritable, those are the signs of depression.
“There is a very thin line between normal teen behaviour and teen depression,’ said Musida in bringing attention to the topic.
The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (Sadag) says South African teens are at a particularly high risk as the mental health impact of Covid-19 has been immense.

Miss SA Shudu Musida hopes to remove mental health stigma with #MindfulMondays

Miss South Africa Shudufhadzo Musida will be hosting a series of online conversations with experts on mental health every week.
The #MindfulMondays series takes place on her Instagram page at 7pm every Monday and will tackle the various complexities of mental well-being.
It was launched on Monday 8 February with clinical psychologist and SADAG board member Zamo Mbele as Musida's first guest.
On Monday 15 Feb Miss South Africa was joined by educational psychologist Dr. Elzette Fritz to discuss teen depression.
Musida is an advocate for mental health awareness and is using the Miss South Africa platform to amplify her message.

'Her besties don't want to play with her if she's not wearing pink': Peer pressure at three?

In my three-year-old's closet, there are only three sets of clothes she'll wear. The rest just hang there, brand spanking new. The three sets are all pink.
At first, I thought it's a girl thing, but one day I stumbled upon the explanation: her two besties don't want to play with her if she's not wearing pink. I was gobsmacked – peer pressure at age three? But it's not that strange at all, the experts say.
Children are subjected to social pressure or peer pressure even before they go to school, says Elzette Fritz, an education psychologist from Primrose in the east of Johannesburg. It starts in nursery school.
