Sacred nine lemons, believed to cure infertility, sell at hefty prices in Indian temple

Nine lemons, which were considered sacred after being kept on the deity's spear in a temple in Villupuram, Tamil Nadu were auctioned at Rs 2.36 lakh (approx. $28,309) by the authorities on Tuesday (Mar 26). 

The reason why the lemons were sold at such a hefty price is because the devotees believed that consuming them would bring prosperity to the families and cure infertility. 

Devotees believe that consuming lemonade made from these lemons cures infertility and brings prosperity to families.
