The nine smallest parties in the new parliament will set out their preferences for the new government coalition on the second day of exploratory talks.
On Monday it was the turn of the biggest parties, headed by the VVD and D66, who are expected to form the base of the next coalition. They have both been assigned a scout (‘verkenner’) to canvas the views of all party leaders and report back to parliament.
Prime minister Mark Rutte said the Christian Democrats (CDA) would be his first choice, but its leader, finance minister, Wopke Hoekstra said it was ‘not attractive to join a liberal engine block’.

Another record result!
“Partij voor de Dieren” moves into the national parliament of the Netherlands with 6 seats!
In the capital, Amsterdam, it received an incredible 7.1% and in many other cities and towns, the election results were similarly high.
There are a total of 150 seats in the “Tweede Kamer der Staten-Generaal”, as the parliament is officially called.
The election result has not yet been fully counted, but it is expected to be 3.8% for the

Partij voor de Dieren”, which is an increase of 0.6 percentage points and one seat more than before.
It has been represented at the national level in Parliament since 2006 and in the European Parliament since 2014.

Election watch: the lowdown on the main Dutch political parties

Netherlands has an ever-expanding range of political parties in parliament, due to the recent trend of dissidents breaking away after an intra-party row to form their own splinter group. There are also various flavours of Christianity to choose from.
Here’s an alphabetical list of the 13 parties that currently hold seats in parliament, in alphabetical order, and three hopefuls which, the polls suggest, are in with a chance in the March general election.
50PLUS
Seats in parliament: 3
Campaign slogan: No
Founded in 2009 as a pensioners’ rights party – despite being named for the over-50s – 50PLUS has been bedeviled by splits and rivalries, and former leader Henk Krol is now standing for parliament under his own name.  The party wants the retirement age brought back to 65. Manifesto

Fur farming is rapidly being phased out from countries across the European Union and in some states in the US. Wearing real fur has been out of fashion for years. In fact, it has gone very mainstream with even the Queen of England vowing to use only faux fur for all her new clothing.
The fashion industry has been actively working to end the use of fur. In fact, London fashion week banned the use of fur in the event in 2018 and several large fashion houses including Gucci, coach, Versace, and Burberry no longer work with fur. Using real fur is becoming very unpopular and that’s why the new proposed law to speed up the process of ending fur farms in the Netherlands is very welcome news.

600,000 Minks Have Died of Coronavirus in the Netherlands, Possibly Ending the Pelt Industry

Coronavirus has been associated with animals such as the bat and pangolin, making it a zoonotic virus. However, in the Netherlands, minks have been affected by SARS-CoV-2 the most. On July 3, Dutch authorities announced the 18th mink farm to be infected with COVID-19, infecting some 4,300 animals.
In total, almost 600,000 of the nation's 800,000 minks have been killed - treated with carbon monoxide gas to stop the virus from being spread. The Netherlands is the world's largest mink fur producer alongside China, Denmark, and Poland. Yet, even China's virologists have not reported such cases in their mink farms. Veterinarian Anne Sofie Hammer at the University of Copenhagen said, 'We have not recorded any similar disease or outbreaks.'

The government has earmarked an extra €300m to support the cultural sector, on top of the support package which employers in the sector can use to compensate workers for shorter hours and freelancers to apply for benefits.
The money will be spent on what culture minister Ingrid Engelshoven called the ‘crucial cultural institutions’, such as the Rijkmuseum, the Nationaal Ballet and the International Theatre.
Part of the money will be divided between six funds which will support ‘a limited number of museums, theatres and festivals which play a crucial role in their region’ provided local and provincial authorities also contribute, the minister said in a statement. Sustaining the cultural infrastructure will generate work for freelancers as well once the crisis is over, she said.

MPs have called for a committee to investigate plans to track and trace people infected with coronavirus via an app to tackle concerns about privacy.
Parties including the PVV, Labour (PvdA), animal rights party PvdD and Forum voor Democratie have backed plans for a committee hearing, which would take evidence from behavioural scientists and security experts.
Health minister Hugo de Jonge has said a ‘corona app’ is an essential part of the plan to roll back the ‘intelligent lockdown’ measures. The app would track infected people via their mobile phones and alert anyone who has been in contact with them. Around 600 companies have responded to the government’s request for help developing the software.
