Jayashankar, the executive engineer of BBMP West Zone, stated, “We received numerous representations from resident welfare associations and Malleswaram traders’ associations. There has also been a High Court directive to clear encroachments on footpaths. So, we began the encroachment removal drive at 11.30 am on Friday. We deployed 20 personnel and four tractors for the purpose. The drive addressed the removal of illegal shops, carts, and fruit boxes dumped on the footpaths. These were successfully cleared, and we hope pedestrians can easily walk around.”
