The Indian Navy's INS Sumedha has arrived in Egypt to participate in 'Exercise BRIGHT STAR-23', the largest joint military exercise ever held in the Middle East and North Africa region. The exercise involves 34 countries and is planned in two phases. The Harbour Phase includes activities such as cross-deck visits and professional exchanges, while the Sea Phase will feature high-intensity exercises and live weapon firing drills.

Indian Army and Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent with Integrated Combat troops arrived at Alexandria for Exercise Bright Star-23 on August 29. The opening ceremony was held on August 31. The Indian contingent of 550 personnel is among the largest Indian deployments for an overseas exercise, the Indian Embassy in Egypt said.
