Thane, Jan 30 (PTI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sought to close a case registered against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh and others for alleged extortion, citing lack of substantial evidence.
In February 2022, Sharma's accomplice, Rajesh Ranjan, was also convicted and sentenced to three years in jail. The trial against Sharma was separated then due to his inability to remain present before the court.
With this, the number of arrests has gone up to four in the case. The police had earlier arrested Pandit’s businessman Pankil Mohta, Zala’s nephew Kripalsinh Vaghela, and Shailendrasinh Sodha alias Bhanubha, who is also the nephew of a late IPS officer who had served as inspector general of the Border range.
