Federal authorities have been clear that Sicknick was assaulted with a powerful chemical spray in his face. They've said Sicknick and other officers were overpowered and potentially briefly blinded by that spray while on the front lines.

Medical Examiner Rules Natural Causes Triggered Brian Sicknick's Death

A medical examiner's office concluded that natural causes triggered the death of Brian Sicknick, one of the victims of the Capitol Insurrection that happened on January 6, 2021. The ruling was made by the medical examiner's office from Washington, D.C. on Monday, Associated Press reported.
Officer Brian Sicknick is one of the law enforcement officers who defended the Capitol when the rioters stormed inside the building while Congress is voting to certify President Joe Biden's electoral winning. Although the cause of Sicknick's death was not determined until Monday, investigators initially theorized that the cop's cause of death was when he was hit with a fire extinguisher in the head.

(CNSNews.com) - It took more than three months for the American public to learn that U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick died of natural causes -- two strokes, the D.C. medical examiner disclosed in an email to media outlets.
So contrary to earlier reporting and Democrat claims, Sicknick was not killed by Trump supporters during the January 6 invasion of the U.S. Capitol.

Police officer died of 'natural' causes day after Capitol riot

WASHINGTON (ABC News) – U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick died of “natural” causes one day after a violent mob stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, the Washington, D.C., medical examiner announced on Monday.
The medical examiner’s conclusion comes amid lingering questions over whether the 42-year-old officer was fatally attacked on Jan. 6.
Last month, federal authorities arrested two men who allegedly assaulted Sicknick with bear spray at the Capitol, but authorities did not say if the assault directly contributed to his death the next day.
According to the medical examiner, a stroke is specifically what caused Sicknick’s “natural” death, and, “If death is hastened by an injury, the manner of death is not considered natural.”
