A survey exploring the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic upon the archive and stock footage industry illustrates that as companies are seeing increasing demand for archive content — and as a result, increasing business — there is a stronger sense of optimism concerning the prospects for the industry in the lockdown era.
The survey, conducted by archive service Footage.net, was the second issued by the company in the COVID-19 era, and was conducted online over a 28-day period in January and February of 2021. Sixty footage companies from around the world contributed with input. The majority of the companies taking part were mature businesses, in operation for 10 or more years, and based primarily in the U.S. and/or the United Kingdom.

“This is a space we at Fox have been looking to enter; but we wanted to be strategic about it and the premise had to be something big and broad that would appeal to all viewers. When Grant [Mansfield] and Tom [Hugh-Jones] pitched

More than 140 prominent documentary filmmakers and decision-makers in the entertainment industry have signed an open letter to PBS president and CEO Paula Kerger requesting data regarding the diversity statistics for American public broadcaster PBS.
The letter comes from Beyond Inclusion — a Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC)-led collective of non-fiction filmmakers, executives, and field builders, many of whom have worked with PBS. The group, through the letter, is suggesting that based on available evidence, PBS, America’s largest non-commercial media organization, has not met its diversity mandate as evidenced by its past and present practices.
