Breakfast

christmas is about miracles and these are absolute miracles. we just feel incredibly blessed to have them. they weighed in atjust over a pound each when they were born 22 weeks, five days into jade's pregnancy. it has been some journey. it was trying to get to double figures and then it was trying to get to 50 and 100. to see such a barmy number now isjust ridiculous. i have just kept it going because it is a massive reminder of the journey we have been on. and, in the early days, all you could cling on to was hope. you always believed they would make it, though? yeah, absolutely. from a faith perspective, absolutely. of course, you question it, but we both had an unnerving feeling they were going to make it. it is still too early to say what being born so early may mean for their health. they left hospital back in march, afterfive months. they are doing well and have not been readmitted since. we really don't know.

Ramadan gives time to reflect on coming together, healing

I just viewed an informal interview with a young man who was an unaccompanied minor, coming to the United States, alone, at age 13. His mother told him to leave her and their village because their village had been invaded the night before. Many people were kidnapped that night.
I couldn’t help but think throughout history of mothers doing their best to give their children a better future, and the sacrifices people are challenged to make. Like the fall of Saigon, where there is film showing a mother shoving her baby onto a helicopter that she had no way of getting on. And the Prophet Ibrahim, walking with his son up Mount Arafat to sacrifice him.

Hindu holiday Ramnavami celebrates the god Ram

“Masiba, call us when you come to a picture page in your Ramayan.”
My brother and I said this every night to our aunt, who sat and devotedly read the ancient book while we played nearby. She would call us when there was an illustrative page, and told us the story about it.
My Masiba’s nightly routine became my introduction to one of the world’s largest epic and the most beloved book of Hindus, "Ramayan." My experience is not unique. Most Hindu children grow up knowing Ram, Sita, Hanuman and their stories. They get lovingly woven with childhood memories and somehow never lose their affectionate hold on millions of Hindus.

Life is full of coincidence and purposes

Do you believe in coincidence?
You know what I mean. You think of someone out of your past and strangely, you hear from them or chance to meet them unexpectedly. Just a coincidence, you say.
Or, you have been working on a problem that has been elusive for days, but suddenly something completely unrelated makes it all clear. Just a coincidence.
I won’t say it has been often, but there have been times when I have had those experiences and chalked it up to “coincidence.” On the other hand, I often wonder, is there more to it?
For example, I am sure that From a Faith Perspective column coordinator Sister Eileen White had no idea when she made our most recent assignments that when she scheduled me for April 11, it was my birthday. My first reaction was, “Isn't that coincidental?” Then I thought, “No, it is a trigger to remind me of my mortality.”
