The amendment seeks to prohibit people from legally acquiring a firearm for the purposes of self-defence. It's currently out for public comment.
On Thursday, AfriForum held a conference on the matter, with 21 other organisations including three political parties.
The proposed changes to the firearms control act which include removing self-defence as valid reason to own a gun, is not only illogical, but it could result in more deaths.
"There is no point in being up in arms, and not making your voice heard," says Police Ministry spokesperson Lirandzu Themba.
It has many fired up as it proposes a ban on owning a gun for self-defence purposes, with the DA saying people must protect gun ownership for self-defence as it was the last line of defence for millions of South Africans.
