The police in Enugu State, Southeast Nigeria, have warned that they would not tolerate any acts of hooliganism or similar conduct during the governorship and State Assembly elections in the state. The elections will hold in many states across the federation on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

Ahead of the Saturday's Governorship and House of Assembly elections in Enugu State, a combined crack team of security agencies has arrested 14 political thugs with arms in some local government areas of the state. The thugs who were arrested on Saturday, in Isi-Uzo and Igbo-Eze North local government areas, SaharaReporters gathered, were deployed to the council headquarters to unleash mayhem during the Saturday's elections.

The governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Enugu State, Chijioke Edeoga has raised the alarm of alleged plans by the Peoples Democratic Party in Enugu State, to use armed thugs to frustrate the March 18 elections in the state. Edeoga, who made the allegation in a statement issued on Sunday, called on the Federal Government to conduct an urgent audit of the guns approved for vigilante security services in the state to avert what he described as “a war” on the people of the state.

The PDP had not responded to the allegations.
