Indonesia attends ministerial meeting COP26 Glasgow

The hybrid meeting is aimed to discuss crucial points of COP26.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Environment and Forestry (LHK), Siti Nurbaya, led Delegation of the Republic of Indonesia (DELRI) to present crucial insights of COP26 Glasgow during “The July Ministerial Meeting COP26 UNFCCC”, on Sunday - Monday (25-26 July 2021).

The hybrid meeting held by British Government as the host of COP26 UNFCCC is aimed to allow Ministers of Environment from UNFCCC countries to gather and discuss crucial points of COP26, which will be held in November at Glasgow.

The meeting is divided into five sections based on the main topics in COP26 UNFCCC. The five topics include: Scaling-up Adaption; Keeping 1.5° C alive; Loss and Damage; Finalizing the Paris Rulebook – Article 6; and Mobilizing Finance.

World Bank supports Indonesia Carbon Neutral Forest

Indonesia welcomes the possibility of World Bank’s support.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Minister of Environment and Forestry (LHK) Siti Nurbaya held a virtual meeting with Victoria Kwakwa, World Bank Vice President for East Asia and Pacific and One Kahkonen, Country Director for Indonesia and Timor Leste on Thursday (24/6). The meeting discussed on three main agendas related to carbon, mangrove program, and supports for the implementation of Laws no 11/2021 on Job Creation of Environment and Forestry, operational completeness, environmental standard supervision, monitoring and law enforcement.

As stated by Minister Siti, those issues are very relevant as a part of continuous corrective act for her leadership.

The Number of Deforestation in Indonesia Declines

Government commits to reduce deforestation to lower emission.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Indonesia has successfully decrease deforestation by 75.03 percent from 2019-2020. It has reached 115.46 thousand ha. The number is declining from that of 2018-2019, which is 462.46 thousand ha. The data is released by Directorate General of Forest Planning and Environmental Management of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
“Seeing the latest trend of deforestation, we have a relatively low number this year, and it is stable,” said Acting Director General of Forest Planology and Environmental Governance of KLHK, Ruandha A. Sugardiman, on Wednesday (3/3).
The declining number of national deforestation during Covid-19 pandemic counters some claims that say the number of deforestation in 2020 is increasing. It also proves the consistency of Indonesia’s government to decrease deforestation year by year.
