Josh Maja: Fulham striker's penalty against Arsenal equals Premier League record

Having lost their last consecutive league games [against Manchester City, Leeds United, Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers], the Cottagers travelled to North London with the ambition of ending their poor run.
For the Gunners – who are still basking in the euphoria of their Europa League triumph over Slavia Prague – victory over Scot Parker’s men would see them move up the log.
As expected, the game got off to an explosive start with both teams trying to get much-needed goals. Nonetheless, the first half ended on a no winner no vanquished note.
Five minutes before both teams headed for the tunnel, Daniel Ceballos thought he had put his team ahead, but his effort was chalked off after VAR replays. Bukayo Saka was offside in the build-up to the goal.

Josh Maja’s second-half penalty was cancelled out by
Eddie Nketiah’s injury-time strike to give Arsenal a share of the spoils and leave Fulham deep in relegation trouble.
It seemed as though Maja’s spot kick would be enough to earn the Cottagers a vital three points but they conceded an equaliser six minutes into injury time. They will now need to regroup after ecstasy turned to agony in north London.
In a breezy opening, the Gunners should have been ahead in just the second minute. Alexandre Lacazette’s flick found Gabriel Martinelli in the box.

Manchester United overcame Burnley 3-1 in a Premier League clash to move within eight points of leaders Manchester City on Sunday evening.
Burnley thought they had stunned the Red Devils into a first minute opener through a header from Chris Wood, but it was disallowed for offside with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) agreeing.
The Red Devils continued to pose the visitors issues following the closing quarter and threatened the lead through the counter-attack from Rashford, but goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell smothered.
More clear threats followed the host on the half-hour mark after an exchange of passes between Rashford and Bruno Fernandes send the former clear, but Peacock-Farrell parried.

Fulham boss Scott Parker took aim at VAR after admitting that Sunday’s draw with Arsenal at the Emirates felt like a loss.
The Cottagers looked set to claim a priceless three points after
Josh Maja’spenalty gave them a second-half lead. It was all hands to the pump as the home side threw everything at them towards the death. And with six of the seven minutes of stoppage time elapsed,
Eddie Nketiah stabbed the ball home from close range. It was a cruel blow to the west Londoners, who remain deep in relegation trouble.

'Amazing' Aubameyang likes fancy things – Fulham's Lemina raves about Arsenal captain

"As a player I really respect him, I know his background. He wasn't the best player at the beginning and he has worked so hard to get where he is right now, that's why I respect him a lot.
"We are good friends, we don't talk every day. He doesn't want to bother me, he would rather be with his family but he is a really good guy. He's an amazing person."
Fulham are stuck in the relegation zone after four consecutive defeats in the English top-flight which leaves them 18th in the table with six points adrift of safety.

Mario Lemina: Why I will give Fulham everything

In a chat with
SkySports, the former Juventus and Olympique Marseille star is grateful to the Londoners for another opportunity to star in the English top-flight as well as the club’s fans for their unyielding support.
"I am happy for them to see that I am a really emotional guy. I need to respect the team and myself. I need to be able to go home and look in the mirror and be honest with myself," Lemina said.
"I respect that they give me a chance to play again in the Premier League. I will give everything until the end of the season, that's my job and I will keep going."

Mourinho needs to apologise to Solskjaer after ‘bad father’ jibe
Date published: Monday 12th April 2021 3:05 - Editor F365
Keep your mails coming on Jose Mourinho and anything else to [email protected]

I have to say,
Mourinho’s post-match comments yesterday about a figurative statement used by a rival is as bad as he has ever gone.
So Ole mentions how his team should be wary of being conned as Lamela exaggerated an incident with Martial in the reverse fixture and his teammates surrounded him as if it was a serious issue, the aim was to get Martial to fight back and he fell for it. And after that, the match was one way traffic.

Are Fulham's Nigerians destined for the Championship?

After a bruising weekend, however, in which Fulham capitulated against Aston Villa and Newcastle battled back to take a point from Tottenham Hotspur, the Cottagers find themselves with another opportunity missed to boost their survival hopes.
Their goal difference is slightly better than Newcastle’s, but they’ve now got 26 points to the Magpies’ 29, while Steve Bruce’s side have a game in hand.
Crucially, while Newcastle have lost only one of their last five—and their morale will be boosted tremendously following their late equaliser against Spurs—Fulham have now lost four of their last five.
Their morale may well be low as well after their late capitulation against Villa, who, inspired by Egypt’s Trezeguet, scored three in the final 12 minutes.

Fulham suffered a costly defeat in their quest to avoid relegation as a late Aston Villa blitz proved too hot to handle.
Fresh off bagging five goals for Serbia during the international break, Aleksandar Mitrović was straight into the action.
The striker worked a yard of space before stinging the palms of Emiliano Martinez at the near post.
Perhaps with a greater sense of urgency after Newcastle’s late equaliser an hour prior,
Fulham were much the busier of the two teams early on.
Martinez was again called upon to deny the lively Mitrovic, but with quarter of an hour played, the scores remained level.

Man City moves closer to title; Chelsea held in top-4 bid

Manchester City only needs to win five of its remaining eight games to secure the Premier League trophy. A 3-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday moved Pep Guardiola's side 17 points ahead of second-place Manchester United, but having played two games more. Everton was previously in the title mix but a 2-1 home loss to Burnley was the latest setback in its attempt to make the top four.

Manchester City moved 17 points clear of the pack with a 3-0 win at Fulham on Saturday with John Stones continuing his surprising goalscoring touch and Sergio Aguero rediscovering his.
Defender Stones, who had managed one goal in his first 170 Premier League appearances, has now netted four in his last 10.
His close-range effort broke Fulham's resistance two minutes after the interval and after Gabriel Jesus capitalised on a Fulham mistake to make it 2-0, Aguero netted a penalty to grab his 181st City league goal, but first for 14 months.

Sergio Aguero moves Man City closer to Premier League title, but does he have a future at the club?

Sergio Aguero ended a long goalless run in the league and will surely be a champion again, but these could be the final days of his Man City career.

Aina: Fulham raring to bounce back from Manchester City defeat

With the defeat, the Craven Cottage outfit remain in the relegation zone after gathering 26 points from 29 games
Aina is confident the loss will not affect Fulham when they take on Leeds United in their next league game on March 19.
“We’re raring to go, if we had Leeds in an hour we’d be ready to go. We’ll just recover well and get ready for that one,” Aina told the club website.
“The position we’re in, we have to just take it game by game. Good or bad results, we have to take it and move on and look forward to the next one, because ultimately there’s a goal that we need to achieve at the end of the season, so we can’t dwell on bad results.”
