Coswara, the sound-based covid-19 diagnostic tool that the
Indian Institute of Science researchers have been working on to detect the presence of the virus based on respiratory, cough and speech sounds have noted that the virus is indeed behaving differently in the second wave.
This was based on samples collected from people in the exposed
category (health workers) and un-exposed category, in two time periods - before March 2021 and after March 2021.
As per the
data collected by the team during two timelines, people who were exposed in the post-March period had scores that aligned with covid positive (meaning there were signs that they were positive) whereas the data collected from the unexposed category said that they were not affected by the virus.

With experts predicting the third wave of covid-19 could have a devastating effect on children,
Coswara — the sound-based covid diagnostic tool that researchers at IISc have been working on to detect the virus based on respiratory, cough and speech sounds — will be altered to accommodate samples from children as well in the near future.
Work on Coswara has been in progress since April 2020 and those involved in the research have collected large volumes of data, especially during the second wave. However, the present team is also looking at collecting data from children below 15 years.
