So far, India had competed in only one event in all the earlier Olympics though two sailors represented the country on four occasions.
"Yes, history has been scripted. Four Indian sailors have qualified for the Olympics to compete in three events. It's the maximum number of sailors qualified and also in number of events," Yachting Association of India joint secretary general Capt Jitendra Dixit told PTI.

Asian Games bronze medallist Harshita Tomar, put the disappointment of the last two days behind to win both the races. The sailor from Hoshangabad in Madhya Pradesh rose from seventh spot on Monday to third with 30 net total points, pushing compatriot Ramya Saravanan (32 net total points) to fourth.

Mussanah : April 7 (IANS) Top Indian sailor Nethra Kumanan's lead at the top dwindled but she continued to hold her position in the Laser Radial event on Day 4 of the Mussanah Open Championship 2021 -- an Asian qualifying event for the Tokyo Olympics.
The team of KC Ganapathy and Varun Thakkar averaged well after 12 races to retain their nine-point gap over the chasing pack despite some setbacks in the 49er class.
After top-place finishes in both the races on Monday, Kumanan faced tough challenge from Britain's Emma Charlotte and Dutch sailor Jeanne Savelon, finishing third in the seventh race and fifth in the eight to retain a two-point net total lead over her closest rival. While Kumanan is on 15, Savelon is on 17 net total points.

Mussanah, Oman, Apr 6 (IANS): Top Indian sailor, Chennai-based Nethra Kumanan, continued to cruise in the Mussanah Open Championship 2021 -- an Asian qualifying event for the Tokyo Olympics -- consolidating her position at the top on the third day of the women's Laser Radial event at the Millennium Resort here.
The first Indian woman to win a medal at the Sailing World Cup -- a bronze -- finished on top in both her races on Monday in the Laser Radial category. After the disappointment of the opening day, Kumanan, who has also represented the country in the 2014 Incheon and 2018 Jakarta Asian Games, is leading the charts with a net total of seven points.

Competition is heating up at the Mussanah Open Championship where, at the midway point of the event, all classes remain incredibly close.
Conditions were perfect once again, with winds up to 15 knots and clear blue skies ensuring racing went down to the wire with no interruptions.
The 49er class is wide open, with yet another new leader on top of the rankings at the close of Day 3.
Indian duo KC Ganapathy & Varun Thakkar ended the day in first place from Benjamin Talbot & Alex Burger of South Africa and the Chinese pairing of Hong Wei & Chao Xiang.
