Former Brighton and Republic Ireland forward Gerry Ryan had died aged 68. Ryan made 199 appearances for the Seagulls after joining from Derby in 1978, scoring 39 goals. During seven years at the club, he scored the goal which sealed Albion's promotion to the top flight in his first season and played in the 1983 FA Cup final against Manchester United.
