Leaders of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band, La Ronge and Air Ronge decided not to celebrate Canada Day in 2021. Instead they focused on marking National Indigenous People's Day.
Leaders of three northern Saskatchewan communities are pressing “pause” on Canada Day this year and chose instead to focus on marking National Indigenous People’s Day on Monday.
Lac La Ronge Indian Band Chief Tammy Cook-Searson said she and the mayors of neighbouring La Ronge and Air Ronge did so to “to honour the 215 children that were discovered, the remains that were discovered… in Kamloops, B.C.,” and “the many other children that didn’t make it from residential school.”

Leaders of Newsom recall effort say they have enough signatures
Leaders of an effort to recall California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) said Sunday that they have collected enough signatures to spark a special election this year.
At a press conference, organizers announced that the effort has gathered 1.95 million signatures in support of the recall more than a week ahead of the March 17 deadline. The recall movement leaders said they still plan to try to reach 2 million before that date.
"That is more than enough to be able to have this initiative qualified for a special election later this year to let the people finally decide ... what is gonna happen with the fate and the future of California Gov. Gavin Newsom," Randy Economy, a political adviser working on the effort, said.

On Monday, a letter was leaked in which Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita suggested to his prime minister that all Morocco government offices suspend their relationship with the German embassy in the capital, Rabat, as well as with other German cultural and political organizations in the country. Bourita said this was necessary because of "deep misunderstandings" on "issues fundamental for Morocco."

Leaders detained, internet cut off and banks closed: How Myanmar woke to a military coup.
On Monday morning, the 54 million people of Myanmar, a country in Southeast Asia, awoke to an attempt to dismantle their relatively new democratic government.
At dawn, Myanmar's military seized control of the country after detaining their democratically-elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi and other government officials. Amid the political unrest, the country's internet was temporarily cut off, banks were closed and flights have been cancelled.
