Chairman and Managing Director of the Suez Canal Authority, Osama Rabie confirmed that the authority has assumed full responsibility in dealing with the grounding crisis of the of the Panamanian-flagged container ship “EVER GIVEN” since the incident took place, and has harnessed all its technical, human capabilities, equipment, and marine units it possesses to successfully complete the salvage operation with the participation of more than 600 members of the Authority’s staff as well as using 15 tugs, multiple diving and salvage units, service launches, and two dredgers belonging to the authority’s fleet of dredgers, as the authority has introduced the use of dredging in marine salvage operations, which is not common due to its requirement of high accuracy and adhering to the highest safety standards.

Suez Canal Authority offers to cut Ever Given bill to $600 million
The Suez Canal Authority (SCA)
is offering to slash the compensation bill for Ever Given’s March grounding in the waterway from $900 million to $600 million, according to the canal’s chairman Osama Rabie.
While speaking to a local television channel MBC Masr, Rabie is quoted as saying by Bloomberg, that the offer has already been made to the owners of the vessel, Japan’s Shoei Kisen Kaisha, which is yet to respond.

Three crew members of the Ever Given containership, who are due to be relieved following the expiration of their contracts, have been granted permission to leave the vessel, which remains arrested in Egypt.
The ship has been anchored in the Great Bitter Lakes region for a month now, awaiting for the legal battle between the owner of the vessel and the Suez Canal Authority to be resolved.

“Requests to allow the overdue crew to depart have been granted by the Suez Canal Authority (SCA). Minimum safe manning standards for the vessel will be maintained at all times and crew members who depart the vessel are being relieved,” Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM), the shipmanager of the containership, said in an update.
