CONTENT: Press Release
EMERYVILLE, Calif., May 3, 2021 /3BL Media/ - SCS Global Services (SCS), a global leader in third-party sustainability and climate certification, congratulates the UN Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action (FICCA) for publication last week of its groundbreaking report outlining the processes that contribute to low carbon sources of cotton and polyester. SCS served as the neutral technical lead for the FICCA Raw Material Working Group, which authored the report. The Working Group engaged industry experts and textile and apparel organizations to complete the comprehensive study.
Polyester and cotton are the two primary fibers used in the textile industry, constituting 52% and 23% respectively of the total fiber volume produced globally. This report highlights the production changes that would be needed to align with the goals of the Paris Climate Change Agreement and move towards net-zero emissions by 2050.

Across industries, sustainability is becoming an increasing expectation. From reducing emissions to increasing recycling, both businesses and consumers are looking for ways in which they can reduce their environmental impact. But when it comes to products and packaging in the life science industry, developing sustainable solutions while meeting transit and safety regulation requirements is an ongoing challenge.
Now, imagine the complexity of executing this process for more than 300,000 products and 2.5 million SKUs along with associated packaging.

Cummins is getting closer to the opening a new plant in Herten, Germany, this year that will initially focus on the assembly of fuel cell systems for a low-carbon economy.
The facility will eventually expand to also support fuel cell stack refurbishment and includes space for research and development.
The plant will “better position us to provide critical support to customers in Europe and strategically strengthen our position to be a leader in tomorrow’s hydrogen economy,” said Amy Davis, President of the New Power business segment at Cummins, which is leading the company’s efforts in battery electric and fuel cell electric power systems.

Shake Shack Begins Using AirCarbon Cutlery at Select Locatio

by Emily Holbrook
Shake Shack recently announced the introduction of sustainable AirCarbon cutlery and straws from Restore Foodware at select Shake Shack locations in the US. The straws and cutlery will be available across all guest ordering services including walk-up window, drive-up window, curbside pickup, in-Shack pickup shelves, and delivery.
Shake Shack is introducing AirCarbon cutlery and straws at select locations by joining forces with Restore Foodware. The company launched the world’s first natural and regenerative foodware made from AirCarbon in late 2020, a biomaterial certified carbon-negative by SCS Global Services and Carbon Trust, showing it reduces  the amount of carbon in the air through production. As a natural material, AirCarbon contains no synthetic plastics, PLA or synthetic glues, requires no food crops for production and is home compostable, soil degradable, and ocean-friendly, degrading naturally if it ends up in the environment. Shake Shack locations in West Hollywood and Long Beach in California, Madison Square Park and West Village in New York, and Miami Beach in Florida will pilot the AirCarbon cutlery and straws, along with a new Shake Shack location in Santa Monica when it opens this spring.
