Another developing story we're following for you. that huge oil spill in the gulf of mexico, 50 miles off the louisiana coast. that's where the deep water horizon drill rig sank after a huge explosion ripped through it last week. right now, about 42,000 gallons of oil are gushing into the gulf on a daily basis. that's 1,000 barrels. a small army of workers are fighting to stop that leak. they're hoping that robot submarines will be able to trigger what's called a blow-out preventer, basically a valve at the top of the we will head. if that helps, the valve would be closed and shut off the leak...
Mccormick, the director of petroleum extension service at the university of texas, has many years of experience working with the crews of off shore oil rigs. you were with us last week when we were trying to make sense of the fire and developments. what tongue do you think of these efforts? does this make sense? >> it certainly makes eminent sense, and these are tried and true efforts there. there's a couple other efforts this they might try to employ. one is to put a dome over the leak, and run a pipe up to the surface and collect oil that way. or to put disperseants down. >> to try and break...
