Independent Bookstore Day looks a little different this year – again.
The American Booksellers Association’s annual celebration of indie bookstores is typically held on the last Saturday in April. In early 2020, as the pandemic spread, Independent Bookstore Day was rescheduled to the last Saturday in August, in hopes that bookstores would be operating normally by then. We all know how that story ended.
For 2021, with a year of pandemic selling experience under everyone’s belts, Independent Bookstore Day is back to its usual April date. Participating stores plan unique celebrations that can include raffle baskets, prizes, discounts, special merchandise and more – but many of the celebrations will be virtual. ....

The Multnomah County Library soon will reopen a handful of its buildings, providing limited on-site services after a year of its premises being shuttered to the public because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Five of the popular library system’s 19 locations will open June 1, says Shawn Cunningham, the library’s director of communications and strategic initiatives. They are:
