While social and a few corners of the mainstream media were agog at the news that Africa's tallest tree can be found in Limpopo, it will be a matter of a few hundred years before that honour passes to one of the redwoods growing in a secluded valley in the Western Cape.

GEORGE NEWS - In celebration of World Wildlife Day, which is held annually on 3 March, CapeNature / The Greenpop Foundation* has planted a tree on behalf of George Herald. Representatives visited George Herald's offices early in March to hand over a certificate.
The project of planting trees not only improves the well-being of nature itself, it also provides livelihoods for vulnerable communities with ties to these areas, within and near forested areas.

Southern Africa is fortunate to have a high level of endemism in all forms of life and, as a country, is considered by some to be the third most biologically diverse country in the world.
Endemism refers to species that are restricted to a certain region, and can be found nowhere else in the world.
At least 57 of the Southern Africa’s endemic bird species and 32 of the near-endemic species are found in the Overberg. With these 89 species the region boasts more endemic birds than most countries have to offer. A further advantage is that most of these species are fairly easily accessible, and several guides, eager to part with appropriate local knowledge, are readily available.
