New eye institute opening at Golisano Children's Hospital this fall

WINK News has an exclusive first look at a new eye institute opening for children in our area. The building off Summerlin Road and San Carlos Boulevard will double the current exam space offered at Golisano Children’s Hospital. Its long, narrow rooms are also specifically designed for eye exams.
The original pediatric ophthalmologist at Golisano, Dr. Jessica Kovarik, says this building and increase in staff will significantly reduce families’ wait times to book an appointment.
“The wait was many, many months; I think, at one point, it was something like nine months,” Kovarik said. “I think now it’s a little over a month.”

Saving our environment and construction don’t typically go hand in hand, but for architect David Corban, one of Gulfshore Life Magazine’s Men of the Year, it’s a perfect mix.
“My father is a retired forest ranger, so… just having a real respect for the natural environment,” Corban said.
His father’s mark is benefiting all of us through Corban’s approach to buildings.
“Buildings are one of the largest users of fossil fuels in the world,” Corban said.

Your child’s education is being put through one of the toughest tests right now. From virtual learning to likely budget cuts, the future of our schools seems scary for parents.
But one man, Harlan Parrish, is putting education before all else. After 36 years in banking, he considers himself a numbers guy, but it’s his work in schools that he prioritizes.
“I firmly believe that it’s so important to our economic vitality,” Parrish said.
That’s why he has volunteered for 21 years for the Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, work for which WINK News’ partners at Gulfshore Life Magazine have recognized him as one of its men of the year. The foundation’s coming year, he says, may be one of its most challenging.
