POSCO to produce nickel for secondary batteries in Indonesia

POSCO Holdings is seeking to expand overseas nickel production, a key material in secondary batteries, in an effort to strengthen its global nickel value chain. According to POSCO Holdings, the company will invest $441 million to establish a nickel refining plant in Weda Bay Industrial Park on Indonesia's Halmahera Island, Wednesday.

South Korea's Posco to build US$441m nickel refining facility in Indonesia

SEOUL (May 3): Posco Holdings Inc said on Wednesday (May 3) it is spending US$441 million (RM1.96 billion) to build a nickel refining facility in Indonesia as it pushes to beef up its supply chains of the key secondary battery material. The factory will be located in the Weda Bay industrial park on the northeastern island of Halmahera and aim to produce nickel matte, an intermediate product for use in making battery-grade nickel, the South Korean steel giant said in a release.
