Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has emphasized that food certification should be handled by governmental agencies, not non-governmental organisations. She stated that food quality and testing are a government job, and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) should be responsible for ensuring food is free from harmful additives and artificial colors.
In a press conference, she said it is not right for any organisation other than the government ones to give certification.
