The new Parliament complex has six gates - Gaja Dwar, Ashwa Dwar, Garuda Dwar, Makar Dwar, Shardula Dwar, and Hamsa Dwar - which have been designated the names of a mix of real and mythological creatures from Indian folklore.

The new Parliament Building in India showcases the country's cultural and civilizational history through its architectural design. Six animal sculptures guard the six entrances to the building, each representing different aspects of India's heritage. The Gaja symbolises wisdom and wealth, the Ashva represents power and endurance, the Garuda stands for aspiration and progress, the Shardula represents strength and grace, the Hamsa symbolises discernment and self-realization, and the Makara symbolizes unity in diversity.

The new Parliament building, where proceedings will begin tomorrow, has six gates named after creatures -- some real, others mythological. Each of these creatures signifies different aspects of the Parliament that represents 140 crore Indians.
