Sit-in against PKK grows in SE Turkey

Parents hope to reunite with their children abducted or forcibly recruited by terror group

VAN, Turkey
A total of 43 families in eastern Turkey are staging a sit-in against the PKK terror group which has abducted or forcibly recruited their children.
The protest began on Sept. 3, 2019, when three mothers said their children had been forcibly recruited by PKK terrorists. The sit-in outside the offices of the opposition Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), which the government accuses of having links to the PKK, has been growing since then in Diyarbakir province.
Every week, 28 families in Van, 12 in Hakkari and three families in Mus provinces are trying to make their voices heard by sitting outside the HDP offices.

Turkish state moves to shut down opposition Peoples' Democratic Party on terror charges

TURKEY’S Supreme Court of Appeals filed a lawsuit with the Constitutional Court today demanding the closure of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (HDP), as demanded by the neofascist Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).
Chief Public Prosecutor Bekir Sahin filed the case, which claims that the HDP aimed “to destroy and eliminate the indivisible unity of the state with its nation through their statements and actions.”
In a written statement, Mr Sahin claimed that the HDP acted “together with the PKK [Kurdistan Workers Party] terrorist organisaton and … is an extension of the organisaton.”
MHP leader Devlet Bahceli has been agitating for some time for the HDP to be shut down. He has cited the so-called Kobane case, which has seen charges brought against 108 senior party figures, including former co-leaders Figen Yuksekdag and Selahattin Demirtas.

Kurdish woman detained during vigil demanding justice for murdered family

TURKISH police detained a Kurdish woman as she marked seven days of a sit-in vigil outside the Sanliurfa courthouse in Turkey today.
Emine Senyasar is demanding justice for family members who were brutally killed by government supporters in June 2018, days before the country went to the polls in presidential and parliamentary elections.
Her husband, Haci Esvet Senyasar, and two of her sons, Adil and Celal Senyasar, were killed by the bodyguards and relatives of Justice & Development Party (AKP) parliamentarian Ibrahim Halil Yildiz.
His armed thugs opened fire after an argument with shopkeeper Celal, known for his closeness to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), over a red, green and yellow banner, colours associated with Kurdish culture.

HDP warns Turkish government it will be held to account for 'the massacres of women'

THE co-chair of Turkey’s Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) called on the government today to take action to stem a rising tide of femicide, accusing the authorities of being “responsible for the massacres of women.”
Pervin Buldan was speaking at a meeting of the party’s parliamentary women’s group a day after the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) had dismissed the number of murders of women in Turkey as insignificant, claiming that “three times as many men are killed.”
“The duty of the government is not to issue condemnation, it is to prevent these murders and to ensure the heaviest punishment of the perpetrators,” she told those gathered, who included members of the Rosa Women’s Association and Revolutionary Party leader Elif Torun.

Women call for networks of solidarity in their struggle against Turkish state violence

WOMEN will take to the streets across Turkey on Monday in a firm stand against “patriarchal state violence,” with jailed political leaders calling for international networks of solidarity to be built.
Former Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-chair Figen Yuksekdag sent her “heartfelt and passionate greetings and love” to all of those protesting against war, discrimination and violence.
Ms Yuksekdag, founder of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), has been in jail since November 2016 and faces the rest of her life behind bars on trumped-up terrorism charges.
She is seen as a threat to the Turkish state because, as an ethnic Turk, she represents a bridge between the Turkish and Kurdish communities, whose unity is feared by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Erdogan unveils human rights reforms, raising skepticism among advocates

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan Tuesday announced an 11-point human rights action plan, pledging to fortify freedoms and legal protections after years of democratic backsliding under his government.

Mother joins sit-in to inspire others to defy terrorist PKK

Necibe Ciftci’s underage son was abducted, elder son executed by terror group

DIYARBAKIR, Turkey
With the PKK’s bloody terror campaign continuing to victimize countless lives in Turkey, mothers of those forcibly recruited by the terrorist group launched a sit-in in 2019 to bring back their children.
Hundreds have joined the sit-in in Diyarbakir, southeastern Turkey, including Necibe Ciftci, a mother who lost two of her sons to the terror group.
Ciftci said her son Rojhat was only 17 years old when he was tricked into joining the terror group. Although this alone was a tragedy difficult to bear for any caring mother, the coming days proved her suffering had only begun as the worst was yet to come.

Turkey's pro-Kurdish party under pressure as calls increase for its closure - Al-Monitor: the Pulse of the Middle East

The pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party faces renewed pressure in Turkey amid rising calls for its closure and recent court decisions that could see one of its lawmakers removed from parliament.

Turkey Jailed former mayor appears in court unable to speak after the beating she received, HDP warns

TURKEY’S opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) called for action from the international community today, warning of a “political lynching” after a jailed former mayor was beaten so badly she was unable to speak during a court hearing.
Dilek Hatipoglu was subjected to a forced strip-search when she was transferred from Ankara’s Sinan prison to a T-Type jail in the largely Kurdish south-eastern province of Van last week.
After she refused prison guards’ orders to undress at the entrance of the jail, she was taken out of sight of security cameras and assaulted by three guards, who beat her and tore her clothing off.
