Patently Apple has covered a series of patent relating to cooling systems designed for Apple's future extended reality headset since 2020 (links in report). Today the US Patent & Trademark Office published a new patent application from Apple covering a cooling system using different methodologies. The patent is titled "Noise Mitigation for Head-Mounted Device." The design is to provide users with a quiet cooling system so as to make it comfortable for users to wear over longer periods of time, such as when playing a video game.

Patently Apple first covered an Apple patent filed in Europe regarding the use of prescription lens technology in a future mixed reality headset back in 2018. Since that time, we've covered at least three additional patents on this subject matter. Today the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple that relates to head-mounted devices (HMDs) that may be used with clip-on attachable lenses.

In April 2021 Patently Apple discovered a patent application from Apple filed in Europe titled "Wearable electronic device presenting a computer-generated reality environment." It was later filed in the U.S. under a different title. Today's granted patent describes the process as a virtual display expansion operation that relates to a Mac, MacBook or TV etc.

In mid-July Apple was granted their second patent for their Augmented Reality based ‘Measuring’ app. This week the U.S. Patent Office revealed two patents (01 and 02) covering Apple’s AR “Measure” app in an all-new way, measuring a user’s wrist measurement so that those purchasing an Apple Watch online could better determine which size of watch band that they should be purchasing. A third ‘measuring’ focused patent that was published on Thursday by the U.S. Patent Office, reveals yet more advancements are in the works including the use of a smart ring.
