At least 44 people died and over one hundred were injured, many of the critically, when people stampeded at the annual Lag B’Omer pilgrimage in northern Israel.
The largest mass event in Israel since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic suddenly turned into one of the country’s greatest disasters. An estimated 100,000-200,000 people were crowded at Mt. Meron in the northern Galilee area when some may have slipped backwards, starting a domino effect and causing people to flee in panic.

Sky News report on Cabinet Minister Michael Gove’s visit to Israel to study the country’s “green pass” scheme as the UK considers introducing coronavirus vaccine passports. The Cabinet Office minister was accompanied by England’s deputy chief medical officer Jonathan Van-Tam on the trip, which Downing Street said was “purely Covid-related”. Gove met with meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Health Minister Yuli Edelstein. In early April, Gove praised in the 
Telegraph the Israeli Green Pass and voiced support for adopting a similar system in the UK. One method adopted by Israel is the COVID smartphone app is needed to access facilities such as hotels, gyms, sports venues and theatres. Gove also meet with Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi and discussed the ongoing negotiations in Vienna for the US and Iran to return to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

(April 19, 2021 / JNS) Israel has signed an additional agreement with Pfizer-BioNTech for the supply of millions of vaccines for the year 2022, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Monday.
The PMO said the signing followed “major efforts” by Netanyahu and Health Minister Yuli Edelstein. Israel and Pfizer also agreed on an option to acquire an additional quantity of millions of vaccine doses.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Israelis on Tuesday in a joint briefing with Health Minister Yuli Edelstein to “get your shoulders ready and your children,” for the next round of coronavirus vaccine booster shots in another half year.
Speaking in a live broadcast from his office in Jerusalem, Netanyahu said he had come to the briefing “from a discussion with the Health Minister and health system people, following my agreement with the CEOs of Pfizer and Moderna on the additional supply of another 16 million vaccines for the citizens of Israel,” Netanyahu said.

JERUSALEM: Israel will start allowing the limited entry of vaccinated tourist groups next month as its own inoculation campaign has sharply brought down COVID-19 infections, an official statement said on Tuesday (Apr 13).
All foreign visitors will be required to present a negative PCR test before boarding a flight to Israel, and a serological test to prove their vaccination upon arrival at Ben-Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv.
