WOODHAVEN, Mich. – Friends and family members gathered Sunday to honor Hillarie Galazka, a 29-year-old mother who lost her life protecting her sons.
Her family said she was killed shielding her twin boys during a crash on I-96, near Davison.
Woodhaven Nails & Spa held held a fundraiser Sunday for Galazka’s three children. The owners said they saw the story and knew they had to do something.
“She lit up a room when she walked in a room. She was very giving, caring,” said Jodie Kelley, Galazka’s mother. “To me it’s like a shock, it’s like it’s a bad dream.”

Woodhaven Nails and Spa owners opened their doors on a Sunday for a special fundraiser to help the family of 29-year old Hillarie Galazka, who was killed in a car crash two weeks ago.

Residents can schedule vaccine appointment at Ford Field today
After a dry run of inoculating teacher weeks ago, Ford Field is about to start hosting 6,000 vaccine appointments daily. It will open as a mass vaccination center beginning March 24.
From the federal government comes a mass vaccine site at Ford Field; the first of the pilot program that could take effect in other states as well. Shortly after that came plans to expand eligibility for receiving a COVID-19 vaccine to everyone over the age of 16 in the state.

‘She’s a good-hearted, strong, beautiful woman. She didn’t deserve this death.’
‘I am devastated,’ Kelley told the station.
‘I cannot believe that this man wasn’t in prison for his entire life for all of his warrants. I can’t believe he was behind the wheel doing 90 miles per hour in an SUV.’
Kelley said her daughter was her best friend.
‘She’s now gone,’ the mother said.
Galazka’s brother said his sister was well-liked by everyone who knew her.
‘I’m just glad the babies survived a tragedy for the family,’
Jacob Galazka said.
‘Everyone loves those kids. Everyone loves Hillarie. She’s a good-hearted, strong, beautiful woman. She didn’t deserve this death.’

Mom Dies Saving 5-Year-Old Twins in Crash Shielding Them with Body

A mother in Michigan has tragically died after selflessly shielding her 5-year-old twins during a car crash, according to her family.
Hillarie Galazka, 29, was driving home with her twin sons on Monday when her Saturn Ion was rear-ended on the entrance ramp of the I-96 near Davison, WJBK reported.
"Her body saved them," Galazka's mother, Jodie Kelley, told the outlet. "The boys say they saw her open her eyes, and look at them and then she closed her eyes, never opened them again. They remember that."
Jodie said the twins only suffered minor injuries because Galazka threw her body in front of the boys and her body took the brunt of the impact.
