Six Dr. Seuss books _ including “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street” and “If I Ran the Zoo” _ will stop being published because of racist and insensitive imagery, the business that preserves and protects the author’s legacy said Tuesday.
“These books portray people in ways that are hurtful and wrong,” Dr. Seuss Enterprises told The Associated Press in a statement that coincided with the late author and illustrator’s birthday.

As of Friday morning, Dr. Seuss books made up 16 of the top 20 spots on Amazon's bestsellers list. But none of the discontinued titles are on the list.

WASHINGTON — Sales of books written by Dr. Seuss have soared in the days following the announcement that six of the author's books would no longer be published, due to racist and insensitive imagery.
Dr. Seuss Enterprises told The Associated Press on Tuesday, the author and illustrator's birthday, that the six books — including “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street” and “If I Ran the Zoo” — portray people in ways that are hurtful.

New York Public Library will still lend Dr Seuss books pulled from publication over 'racist imagery'


New York Public Library WON'T cancel Dr. Seuss and says it will keep controversial books on its shelves after six titles were pulled from publication over 'racist imagery'
The library said it does not censor books and will continue to lend out six controversial titles by children's author and illustrator Dr. Seuss 
On Tuesday, Dr. Seuss Enterprises announced it would no longer publish the books over their racist and insensitive imagery
The books contain heavily stereotyped depictions of black and Asian characters 
Some fans have bemoaned the decision to stop publishing the titles as an example of 'cancel culture' and have scrambled to buy copies of the books
