Indian state refiners plan to cut oil imports from Saudi Arabia by about a quarter in May
State-run refiner Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has made its first purchase of Norway's Johan Sverdrup crude, buying four million barrels via a tender as it speeds up diversification of crude imports, two trade sources told Reuters on Monday. IOC will take delivery of two million barrels of the North Sea crude in each of May and June, one of the sources said.
Further details on the trades were not yet clear. The move follows the Indian government's call to cut dependence on crude from the Middle East in an escalating stand-off between India, the world's third-largest crude importer, and Saudi Arabia, the de-facto leader of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

Would you want to go down the rung when it comes to any of the smaller banks and look beyond the top five including SBI?
Now that the Supreme Court verdict is out of the way, we can crystallise the losses, the NPAs and provisions that each one of the banks will have to do. It is an additional hit of about Rs 10,000 crore odd to the system. So whether the government funds it or whether the banks bear it net-net, we know the way and adjust for that.
Many of the second-tier banks-- be it
Federal Bank trading at 0.8 times book or NBFCs like L&T Financials -- are trading under book. For both NBFCs and mid-tier,\ financials, there is sufficient room for rerating. The only question is every now and then, we get a Covid spike and that slows down the recovery rate. But I think they are positioned well.

Indian state refiners are planning to cut oil imports from Saudi Arabia by about a quarter in May, in an escalating stand-off with Riyadh following OPEC's decision to ignore calls from New Delhi to help the global economy with higher supply. Two sources familiar with the discussions said the move was part of the government's drive to cut dependence on crude from the Middle East.

The government’s intent to offload public sector units and banks will only result in the long-term loss of public wealth
The origin of the ongoing crisis in the Indian economy was the fateful night of November 8, 2016. Dr. Manmohan Singh’s prescient words in Parliament — that demonetisation would lead to a 2% drop in the GDP — were not heeded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On the contrary, a badly designed and hastily implemented flawed Goods and Services Tax (GST) followed, further devastating vast numbers of medium and small enterprises, as well as the vast informal sector of the economy. Together, these twin disasters robbed millions of their livelihoods and plunged the Indian economy into a prolonged slump that predates the COVID-19 pandemic.

For OMCs such as Indian Oil Corp. Ltd (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Ltd (HPCL), daily gross marketing margin on auto fuels now stands at over ₹3 per litre. The debt reduction thanks to better margins assumes significance against the backdrop of the current privatization of BPCL.
