COLUMBUS, Ohio – A recently introduced bill in the Ohio House would require insurers to cover the cost of hearing aids up to $2,500 – $5,000 for both ears – every 48 months for children through age 21.
House Bill 198 is called Madeline’s Law, named after a Northeast Ohio girl whose parents brought the issue to the attention of state Rep. Casey Weinstein, a Hudson Democrat who sponsored a measure last year and is co-sponsoring the bill this year.

Energy bar: The Ohio Senate sent a bill to the House Wednesday afternoon that eliminates a part of 2019′s House Bill 6 that guarantees revenue for FirstEnergy. Laura Hancock writes that this is the first time an Ohio legislative chamber has made a change to HB 6, even though the federal government announced a bribery probe around the bill’s passage over six months ago.
Bailout out? Legislation to repeal the centerpiece of HB6, a $1 billion-plus ratepayer bailout of two Northern Ohio nuclear power plants, will likely pass the Ohio Senate in a couple of weeks, Senate President Matt Huffman said Wednesday, according to Jeremy Pelzer. Meanwhile, a House committee heard testimony on five different bills to repeal all or part of HB6.
