KATHMANDU, Aug 14: While a number of hydropower projects have been struggling to conclude their financial closure, a government committee has recommended canceling the power purchase agreement (PPA) of all types of hydropower projects above 100 MW that have failed to find financial resources for the past three years.
The MoAs were signed in the presence of Union Power Minister R. K. Singh, Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein. The programme was also attended by Union Power Secretary, senior officers from the Power Ministry and CMDs of CPSUs. Several ministers, MLAs and senior officers from the state were also present on the occasion.
The Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Chowna Mein stated in a significant development, several large hydropower projects in Arunachal Pradesh, which previously witnessed unsatisfactory progress under private developers are now being transferred to central public sector undertakings (CPSUs) operating in the hydropower sector. This conscious effort, initiated by the State government, aims to ensure the successful development of these projects.
Enabling infrastructure around hydropower projects will get a budgetary support of around ₹12,000 crore. While the enabling infrastructure for such projects currently includes roads and bridges, transmission lines from the power station to the pooling stations too could be added to it as per the proposal. Pumped hydropower storage projects may also get the financial benefits.
