The fissure burst near Mount Fagradalsfjall has also witnessed some valiant sightseers grilling hotdogs, and marshmallows and gathering in large number, encircling to gasp and admire at the volcanic phenomenon that occurred in about 900 years at about 40 kilometres (25 miles) from the capital Reykjavik. The recent pictures of the visitors from the scene have now sparked jokes and humour across the social media as the internet compared the gatherers witnessing, what they call “breathtaking” volcanic spurts and incandescent lava with a scene from the HBO drama,

Lockdowns, vaccine delays conspire to push Europe travel to late summer: Travel Weekly

While the success of the Covid-19 vaccine rollout in the U.S. has fueled optimism about a strong summer travel rebound, tourism officials in Europe say that slower progress on vaccines there coupled with new surges likely means any widespread return of Americans won't happen until late summer.
Tom Jenkins
"I don't see anything happening in terms of Europe as a whole [opening] before late July," said Tom Jenkins, CEO of the European Tourism Association. "There's a possibility that July may yield something, but most people are looking at August, September."

Optimism. It’s a feeling that’s probably caked with cobwebs after a year of social distancing and lockdowns. But it’s time to dust it off! Right now, with more and more people in the U.S. and around the world being vaccinated, that boredom of another day filled with Instacart and Doordash orders — and not seeing your friends and family — is being replaced by new-found optimism that life can begin to get back to normal.

Starting this spring, at least seven cruise brands will launch their ships from foreign ports on cruises that will be open to North American passengers.
Cruising is still banned in U.S. waters, due to the CDC's conditional sailing order. But Beginning in June, about 15 ships will cruise from ports in Europe and the Caribbean.
The following lines are currently scheduled to launch cruises open to either vaccinated adults or to vaccinated passengers entirely.
This list excludes sailings that are only open to residents of the country where the ship is homeported, such as in England, where many cruise lines are offering sailings for U.K. residents; Royal Caribbean's ships in Israel and Singapore; and cruises for Europeans by MSC Cruises, Costa Cruises, Tui Cruises, Aida Cruises and Hapag-Lloyd.

Canadian company gets Iceland energy buy-out green light | IceNews

A sizeable minority within the cabinet of the Reykjavik city council intends to request that the details of Reykjavik Energy’s dealings with Canada’s Magma Energy over the sale of its stake in HS Orka be made public.
The board of Reykjavik Energy yesterday voted to accept Magma’s offer to buy 16.58 percent of HS Orka. The company will also purchase a 15 percent share from the Town of Hafnarfjordur.
The sale of Icelandic energy resources to foreigners has never happened before and has caused considerable controversy; especially as Reykjavik Energy is a publicly owned company. Some argue that foreign investment will bring new opportunities, experience and credibility to the Iceland’s huge renewables market, while others feel that energy independence is paramount and that public assets should not be sold to private firms – especially as Iceland is already a world leader and expert nation in renewable energy production.
